LA CHICHA LIBRE

CHICHA LIBRE 2010 SUMMER DATES

Chicha Libre will be traveling this summer. We’re very excited that we will get to actually back up the legenday Ranil, from Iquitos, in Berlin, for this first show ever outside of Peru. And play with the Orcherstre Polyrythmique de Cotonou in Quebec - and still a little puzzled that we will be playing with Red Blondead in Ottawa.

Spring West Coast Tour

Chicha is the name of a corn-based liquor favored by the Incas in pre-colombian days. Chicha is also the name of a South American music craze which started out in the late 70’s in the Peruvian Amazon. Cumbias amazonicas, as they were first called, were loosely inspired by Colombian accordion-driven cumbias but soon incorporated the distinctive sounds of Andean melodies, some Cuban son, and the psychedelic sounds of surf guitars, farfisa organs and moog synthesizers. La Chicha Libre, is a brooklyn based sextet that pay homage to this style, drawing a rare combination of great musicians coming from a variety of styles, yet non of them is Peruvian. I’ve been playing with this band lately, having so much fun! and the great opportunity of exploring an interesting style that once again proves the melting pot that has always characterized south-american music…

After a brief hiatus, Si*Sé will be celebrating the release of their new EP, Gold, at the esteemed Le Poisson Rouge in NYC.
